Important Information
Assumption of Risk
As with any physical activity, there is a risk of injuries and some pain. By participating in the class you are assuming the risk of discomfort and the potential for injury. All instructors take particular care to mitigate risk, to prepare students appropriately and provide a safe and discriminatory free environment. It is mandatory for all students to participate in the care of other students in the dojo, and to the best of their ability, avoid the use of force that would cause undue pain or injury to other participants.
The use of Jujitsu
As a student of Go Rin Pou, you are only allowed to use Jujitsu under the supervision of a sensei or sempai. The only exemption is if you are defending yourself or another, and even then you are only permitted to use reasonable force. This rule is in place for the safety of yourself and others, both physically and legally. For further definition on the legality of self defence, please visit the following links:

What to expect from class
Go Rin Pou holds classes almost non-stop through the year. Notable exceptions are public holidays and a brief break over Christmas and the New Year period. If in doubt, please check the news section of this site for any updates.
If you are a visiting for the first time, we encourage you to come in, sit and watch if you like - one of our instructors will notice that you are new, and introduce themselves and get you started. If you want to have a go your first night, it is highly recommended that you wear loose fitting pants that cover the knee, and a lose fitting t-shirt. Don't wear expensive clothing! First night is free!
A typical class involves:
A warm up - consisting of a little exercise, range of motion movements and stretching, all designed to prepare the body and mitigate the risk of injury.
Break falls - preparing the body for impact, and training muscle memory to avoid injury when falling
Training - be that something specific the instructors need to address, or advancing through techniques to further your self defence mastery.
You will never be asked to perform an activity without appropriate instruction or supervision. Training is provided on every aspect of the activities that we perform.
